Adding and Managing Images

Images bring your documents to life and help communicate your message visually. Whether you're showcasing your work, illustrating concepts, or adding branded elements, Proposify makes it easy to add and customize images exactly how you need them.

Two Ways to Add Images

Method 1: Using the Content Panel

  1. Click the Content tab in the right sidebar
  2. Select Image from the blocks menu
  3. Click the + Upload button
  4. Choose your image file from your computer
  5. Your uploaded images appear in the sidebar library
  6. Drag any image from the library onto your canvas

Method 2: Direct Drag and Drop Simply drag an image file directly from your desktop onto the document canvas. The image will automatically upload and place where you dropped it—no extra steps needed!

Managing Images on Your Canvas

Once you've added an image, you have full control over its appearance and placement:

Selecting and Moving

  • Click any image to select it (you'll see selection handles appear)
  • Drag the image to reposition it anywhere on your canvas
  • Selected images show blue corner handles for resizing

Resizing Images

  • Drag any corner handle to resize proportionally
  • The aspect ratio stays locked to prevent distortion
  • Resize from corners to maintain image quality

Deleting Images Click the trash icon that appears when an image is selected to remove it from your document.

Image Properties and Customization

When you select an image, the right sidebar reveals comprehensive customization options:

Display Settings

  • Opacity: Adjust transparency from 0-100% for overlay effects or subtle backgrounds
  • Width and Height: Set precise dimensions in pixels for exact sizing
  • Alt Text: Add descriptive text for accessibility and screen readers

Interactive Features

  • Link: Make images clickable by adding URLs (external links open in new tabs)
  • Perfect for linking to portfolios, case studies, or additional resources

Visual Styling

  • Border Color: Add colored borders to frame your images
  • Border Width: Control border thickness in pixels
  • Border Radius: Create rounded corners for a softer appearance
  • Border Sides: Choose which sides get borders (all sides, top/bottom, etc.)

Advanced Spacing Click Advanced Spacing to fine-tune positioning with padding controls for top, bottom, left, and right spacing around your image.

Image Layering and Arrangement

Sometimes you need precise control over how images stack with other content blocks:

Layering Options Right-click (or Control+click on Mac) on any image to access layering commands:

  • Bring to Front: Move image above all other elements
  • Send to Back: Place image behind other content
  • Bring Forward: Move up one layer
  • Send Backward: Move down one layer

This is particularly useful when creating layered designs or ensuring text appears over background images.

Image Library Management

Document-Specific Storage Images you upload are stored within each document, making them easily accessible for reuse throughout that specific document.

Reusing Images Once uploaded, images remain in your sidebar library for that document. Simply drag them onto the canvas again to use the same image in multiple sections.

Best Practices for Document Images

File Considerations

  • Use web-optimized formats (JPG, PNG, WebP) for faster loading
  • Consider file size—larger images may slow down document viewing
  • Ensure images are clear and professional quality

Strategic Placement

  • Use images to break up text-heavy sections
  • Consider mobile viewing when positioning images
  • Test how images appear in preview mode before sending

Accessibility Always add descriptive alt text to make your documents accessible to all viewers, including those using screen readers.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Image Won't Upload

  • Check file format (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP are supported)
  • Verify file size isn't too large
  • Try refreshing your browser and uploading again

Image Appears Blurry

  • Use higher resolution source files
  • Avoid stretching small images to large sizes
  • Consider the image's original dimensions when resizing

Positioning Problems

  • Use the layering options to control how images stack
  • Check Advanced Spacing settings if images seem too close to other elements

Images are powerful tools for creating engaging, professional documents. Take time to experiment with the various customization options to find the perfect presentation for your content.
