Tax configurations

Need to add HST, VAT, or other taxes to your pricing tables? The tax row type lets you add any kind of tax calculation automatically. You can set it as a percentage of your subtotal, a flat fee, or even hide it completely for certain clients.

Adding a Tax Row

Getting Started

  1. Open your pricing table for editing
  2. Look for the Totals Rows section in your table settings
  3. Click the Add Row button (the plus icon)
  4. From the Row Type dropdown, select Tax

Your new tax row appears at the bottom of your table, ready to customize.

Customizing Your Tax Settings

Change the Tax Label The row starts with a generic "Tax" label, but you can change this to match your needs:

  • Click on the tax row label
  • Type whatever you want: "HST," "VAT," "Sales Tax," "GST," etc.
  • The label updates immediately

Set Your Tax Rate Click on the tax amount field and you'll see three options:

Percentage Tax (Most Common)

  • Select Percent (%)
  • Enter your tax rate (like 15 for 15%)
  • The tax automatically calculates based on your subtotal

Flat Fee Tax

  • Select Flat ($)
  • Enter a fixed dollar amount
  • This amount stays the same regardless of your subtotal

Hidden Tax

  • Select Hide cell
  • The tax row disappears from the client view
  • Useful when you need to show different pricing to different clients

How Tax Calculations Work

Percentage Taxes When you use percentage tax, it calculates automatically:

  • Subtotal: $85,000
  • Tax (15%): $12,750
  • Total: $97,750

The tax applies to everything above it in your pricing table, giving you accurate totals every time.

Multiple Tax Rows You can add multiple tax rows if needed:

  • Federal tax: 5%
  • State tax: 8%
  • Local tax: 2%

Each tax calculates independently and adds to your final total.

Practical Tips

Common Tax Types

  • HST (Canada): Usually 13-15%
  • VAT (Europe): Typically 19-25%
  • Sales Tax (US): Varies by state, usually 6-10%

When to Use Flat Fees Flat fee taxes work well for:

  • Fixed permit fees
  • Processing charges
  • Regulatory costs that don't change with project size

Hiding Taxes Strategically Use the hide option when:

  • Different clients see different tax rates
  • You're showing preliminary pricing
  • Taxes will be determined later in the process

Quick Troubleshooting

Tax Not Calculating? Make sure you've selected Percent (%) from the dropdown and entered just the number (15, not 15%).

Wrong Tax Amount? Check that your tax is calculating from the right subtotal. Taxes apply to all rows above them in the table.

Need Multiple Taxes? Add separate tax rows for each tax type. They'll stack up and calculate independently.
