Optional Fees

Our optional fees gives your customer the power to choose the goods and services they'd like to pay for.
Henry Ford once said, "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black." Business has come a long way from the day when mass production meant a lack of choice. Today, customers expect to pick, customize, and tailor services to suit their exact need. This is where our optional fees feature comes in handy.

Rows marked as optional have a checkbox to the left of the line item, right in front of the description:

If your customer selects the checkbox, then we include it in that table's subtotal. If your customer would rather opt-out, they can clear the checkbox. Once cleared, we'll remove that row from the table's value. Any fee can be optional, including both unit/quantity and flat fees, and ones with editable quantities or discounts. What's more, anyone with editing permissions can create an optional fee.

Making Optional Fees

To do this, we just need to have a fee ready to go in our table, and then activate the Optional for clients option in the Line Item Options Menu.

The following steps assume that you already understand how to add rows to your pricing table. Learn more by heading over to our Adding/Moving/Deleting Rows article.

To start, open Line Item Options by expanding the three-dot menu to the right of the line item you want to modify:

From here, just select Optional for clients at the bottom:

Choosing A Default State

You may find yourself placing an optional fee in the proposal, but you may not want to activate it by default. It could be a premium feature with a hefty price tag, or a single choice in a tiered pricing structure.

To set a default choice for your document, just select or clear the checkbox on the line item while in the Editor. The setting you choose determines if your customer will see the item included in the deal (or not) by default.

What Optional Fees Affect

Once you add optional rows, we'll calculate the value of your table based on your customer's choice. If they select that row, then the price will be reflected in:

  • Any textbox with the {total} variable.

  • The proposal's value in the preview, snapshot and pipeline page.

  • Whenever you generate an invoice using our integration.

  • Your metrics page.

Optional Fees and Signatures

Once your customer signs the proposal, all optional fee choices will be locked in. We do this so multiple signees will all sign off on the same choices, rather than selecting for and signing off for their own.
